While traditional choirs are well known, Show Choirs can be something relatively foreign to many. Some may wonder, what's a show choir? Let us tell you all about it!

What is a Show Choir?

Initially called "Swing Choir", a Show Choir combines choral singing with dance to form an amazing performance item! (Perfect if you love singing & dancing!). The show choir repertoire consists of pop, all the way to broadway. Show Choirs typically consists of more than 20 performers, however, depending on the schools/ show choir groups the number of performers may differ.

Popularised by the American television series "Glee", Show Choirs were founded in United States in the mid 1960s. Some of the founding choirs are Up With People and The Young Americans. They performed a wide variety of pop songs, quickly gaining attention and love from many.

In Singapore, we do have our own Show Choir groups as well!

The Singapore Show Choir Academy started the Singapore Children & Youth's Show choir in 2013. They seek to become a quality platform for talented Children to get together to express their love and passion for Music, Dance and Performing. They have performed for various clients such as Resorts World Sentosa, Universal Studios, Changi Jewel, Singapore-ASEAN Summit, OSIM International and more. Also, there are various schools with Show Choirs as CCAs. As of today, we have more than 10 schools with Show Choirs! To spread the awareness of Show Choir in Singapore, some schools performed Show Choir Pieces at the SYF ( Singapore Youth Festival ), breaking the norms of showcasing a traditional choir item. They also take part in the annual Show Choir Festival - B-Dazzled! Show Choir Grand Festival to show case their items! B-Dazzled! Show Choir Grand Festival is an annual festival organised by the Singapore Show Choir Academy. It serves as a platform for young talents to share their great passion for music and dance.
